A collective work born from the desire to reconstruct a historical period in a “particular” territory between the Ossola and the Valais. A story that begins at the end of the 18th century and ends in the early 1970s, told through the testimonies of the last spalloni of the Ossola, customs officers, Swiss border guards, and local historians, both Italian and Swiss. The documentary thus has strong historical roots, while also offering an opportunity to travel through the high valleys of the Ossola and the Valais.

Une œuvre collective née de la volonté de reconstituer une époque historique dans un territoire « particulier » entre l’Ossola et le Valais. Une histoire qui commence à la fin du XVIIIᵉ siècle et s’achève au début des années 1970, racontée à travers les témoignages des derniers spalloni de l’Ossola, des agents des douanes, des gardes-frontières suisses et des historiens du territoire, italiens comme suisses. Le documentaire possède ainsi de solides racines historiques, tout en étant également une occasion de voyager à travers les hautes vallées de l’Ossola et du Valais.

Ein kollektives Werk, entstanden aus dem Wunsch, eine historische Epoche in einem „besonderen“ Gebiet zwischen dem Ossola-Tal und dem Wallis wieder zum Leben zu erwecken. Eine Geschichte, die am Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts beginnt und zu Beginn der 1970er-Jahre endet, erzählt durch die Zeugnisse der letzten Spalloni des Ossola, von Zollbeamten, Schweizer Grenzwächtern sowie von Historikern der Region, sowohl italienischen als auch schweizerischen. Der Dokumentarfilm verfügt somit über solide historische Wurzeln und bietet zugleich die Möglichkeit, durch die hochgelegenen Täler des Ossola und des Wallis zu reisen.

Un’opera collettiva nata dalla volontà di ricostruire un’epoca storica in un territorio “particolare” tra l’Ossola e il Vallese. Una storia che inizia alla fine del XVIII secolo e si conclude all’inizio degli anni Settanta, raccontata attraverso le testimonianze degli ultimi spalloni dell’Ossola, di agenti delle dogane, di guardie di confine svizzere e di storici del territorio, italiani e svizzeri. Il documentario ha quindi solide radici storiche, ma rappresenta anche un’occasione per viaggiare attraverso le alte valli dell’Ossola e del Vallese.
